Sony recently announced their reboot to the Spider-Man franchise, which will veer from the Sam Raimi directed trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire eight years ago.

In the reboot, Peter Parker returns to high school, as the story scales backward to a time when Spidey struggles with his inability to prevent his uncle’s death. Sounds like another emo-Spidey story if you ask me.

The British-based Garfield, twenty-six, is the same age Maguire was when he first took on the superhero role back in 2001. While many of us here in the States may be wondering just who Andrew Garfield is, you may remember him appearing in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. He has won numerous awards in Britain, and was named one of the top 10 actors to watch by Variety Magazine in 2007.

It looks like Variety was right, as Garfield is now stepping into the spotlight. It won’t be long before he’s decorating the walls of teenage girls all over the world, as he’s much cuter than Tobey Maguire… or so my teen says.

Then I woke up this morning, and you were in the news again. They’re all calling you a racist again because you told the mother of your child that the way she was dressed was likely to prompt her to get raped by a pack of n***ers. Then you threatened to burn down her house, but first she has to blow you?

“How dare you act like such a bitch when I have been so f**king nice?” Um, I’m not sure it’s Oksana who’s acting like a little bitch here, Mel.

Mel… I’m disappointed, but I’m sure you don’t care what I think.

Apparently Radar Online got their hands on this tape, and Gibson’s people aren’t commenting about his latest racist outburst. Gibson’s ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, who he is in the midst of an epic legal battle with, recorded the conversation without his knowledge, so it likely won’t be used as evidence in the court.

You and I both know when it comes to judging a celebrity’s career, the legal system has nothing to do with it. Whether the tape can be used to prove harassment or not, the public will judge Gibson, and I have a feeling any movies that come out with him as the star will flop on account of his most recent outburst.

Way to go, Mel. Way to go!

Jones was sentenced to five years probation and instructed to seek sexual counseling. He must also appear in the sexual offenders database for the rest of his life.

Jones was arrested on June 23, after failing to update his status as a sex offender and is scheduled to appear in court on July 14. Failure to update registry information is considered a felony. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jones was not available for comment at this time.

This is one of those things that just goes to show how little attention I pay to celebrity news. I had no idea he was ever even convicted as a sexual predator, and though I always loved him in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and as Lydia’s dad in Beetlejuice, I’m a little stunned and will probably never be able to look at him the same way again.

Anyone who’s been following the television adaptation of Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse novel series is well aware of the hatred between Bill Compton and his sexy vampire maker, Lorena. Lorena, who can’t catch the hint that Bill doesn’t want her no matter how many times he throws it her way, is determined to recapture his love, even if it’s fueled by vicious hatred.

She’s interfered with his relationship with Sookie, had him kidnapped by the Vampire King of Mississippi and continues to remind him of all he lost when she turned him all those years ago. One important lesson Bill finally learned from Lorena: interacting with humans only leads to human suffering.

We all know how hard it is for Bill to deal with his vampire nature in the television series. He wants to be good, deny his animal side as often as possible, but something about his hatred for Lorena brings it to the surface, as you can see in this disturbing clip from the final scene of Sunday night’s episode.

They’re calling this later Urban Dictionary entry the vampire hate f*ck…and with good reason. It’s chock full of f**kin’ and hatin.

This scene certainly not for the faint of heart, and it’s not safe for work either. It’s brutal, twisted (in more ways then one,) and so disgusting even I had to look away. It’s even got some True Blood watchers saying HBO has finally gone to far with the series… Yeah, right.

Is this not one of the most disturbing things you’ve ever seen on television?

And I’m not the only one who’s been enjoying it on Tuesday nights. The surprising summer hit has been pulling in excellent ratings for the network, which prompted them to pick up an additional twelve episodes of the series. That means the first season will be a full twenty-two episodes long, with the first ten episodes rounding out near the end of August.

The show will most likely take a mid-season break and come back just in time for winter holiday vacations, when teens have more time to watch television.

My fifteen-year-old is loving this show, and has officially dubbed Tuesday nights her new favorite night of the week… well, right after Monday, which also features ABC Family favorites, Secret Life of the American Teenager and the brand new summer program, Huge.

Mystery, intrigue, bad behavior… Pretty Little Liars is everything I hope my own teenager never becomes, and entertainment enough for the entire family to sit down together and enjoy some quality TV time.

Sunday, June 27, Locane-Bovenizer had not one, but two car accidents, one from which she fled the scene, and the second which resulted in the death of a 60-year-old New Jersey woman, Helene Seeman. Seeman’s husband, who was driving the couple’s sedan, was seriously injured and remains incapacitated in the hospital. The couple’s youngest son, 17-year-old Curtis Seeman was with his mother when she died.

One witness in Princeton, NJ, claimed that Locane-Bovenizer struck another vehicle miles away and fled the scene, knocking down mailboxes in her haste to get away.

According to CBS News, Locane-Bovenizer admitted to consuming several glasses of wine, and Somerset County Acting Prosecutor A. Peter DeMarco, Jr. said she appeared drunk, with blood shot eyes and slurred speech, before she was taken to a nearby hospital to have her blood alcohol tested.

Locane-Bovenizer, the mother of two small children, is being charged with vehicular homicide and second and third degree assault by automobile. She could face up to ten years in prison. A small price to pay for taking someone else’s life, I think.

Being a fan of paranormal intrigue and drama, I must tune in to HBO every Sunday and watch True Blood, but after True Blood, I’ve started clicking over to ABC to watch The Gates.

Aside from the fact that it’s teaming with paranormal goodness, there’s just something about gated communities that creeps me out. Anywhere you live that dictates everything from the type of wind chimes you can hang on your front porch to the number of times you can drive up the street is freaky, and The Gates is definitely freakish.

If you haven’t had the chance to check this out yet, I embedded the pilot last Monday and now I’m putting up episode two so you can watch while you work. If your boss isn’t looking, of course. If he is, don’t you dare tell him I told you to do it. You’ll get us both in trouble… on the other hand, we’ll have more time to watch TV… hmm… there’s something to that.

Brown put on quite a tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, just one year after Jackson’s death. Dressed in full Michael Jackson attire, complete with finger bandages, Brown performed a medley of Jackson’s greatest hits that included “The Way You Make Me Feel” and “Billie Jean.” As “Man in the Mirror” kicked into play, Brown broke down in tears and couldn’t perform.

Now the hive’s abuzz with curiosity. Was Brown faking it? Emotionally distraught about the dive his career’s taken since the Rihanna incident? Did he just miss MJ?

I’ve seen Brown on a few talk shows since the incident, and I’ve seen him break down and cry in front of the cameras before. Either he’s really emotional and getting in touch with his feelings, or he’s really good at turning on the waterworks.

Witty and comedic, Zach Anner is a 25-year-old Austin, Texas resident with cerebral palsy. One of the great things about Anner is his wonderful sense of humor, and when Reddit.com sent in a series of questions for Anner.

As well as talking about cerebral palsy being the sexiest palsy of them all, Anner shares his passion for travel, talks about his sense of humor, asks chicks to the Olive Garden and congratulates Cindy Crawford on having such a fantastic career without him.

This guy is hilarious and refreshing, and even if he doesn’t get his own show on the OWN network, I hope like hell someone picks him up. He’s got a great attitude and outlook on life, and I think the world could benefit from his unique perspective.

So someone sign this guy to a travel show already. I can tell you right now, the travel show watching fanatic, my mom, will not only TiVo every single episode, but she’ll make everyone she knows watch it repeatedly. That has to have some kind of ratings impact.

And I’ll watch too, just not so fanatically.

Since that time, the controversy that surrounded the pop stars life only seems to continue. It started with an epic custody battle between Jackson’s mother Katherine and his ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, a battle Katherine Jackson eventually won.

In August reports surfaced that Jackson’s death was not an accidental death, but a homicide. Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was charged with manslaughter six months later on February 8, 2010. Murray pleaded not guilty, and is still awaiting a trial.

Larry King will have an interview June 25 with Jermaine Jackson at 9 PM ET on CNN, where the two will visit Forest Lawn Park.

In preparation for the surge of fans expected to make the pilgrimage to MJ’s final resting place, Forest Lawn Park, authorities set up a series of rules, including how long fans will be permitted to linger in the park, as well as the types of items fans will be allowed to leave behind in tribute to the King of Pop.

Michael Jackson, despite what you may think about all the controversy surrounding his personal life, had a huge impact on the musical world. In fact, since his death, his estate has earned over $783 million in the last year from album and DVD sales. There’s not many who don’t know at least two of his songs, including Thriller, which still rocks no matter what anyone says.

The scandal came to light after contestant Zach Anner, who was in first place, was surpassed by contestant, Dr. Phyllis, by more than 200,000 in a span of twenty minutes. By the end of the hour, Dr. Phyllis accumulated over 600,000 votes. Fans further noted that during this vote surge in favor of Dr. Phyllis, Anner’s vote button was unavailable.

Anner responded to the accusations that Oprah was rigging the votes, telling Time Magazine, “She’s probably too busy, like, helping children and building schools.” I tend to side with Anner on that one, and still blindly support Oprah the person. That’s not to say people affiliated with Oprah and her network aren’t responsible. I just have a hard time imagining Oprah making time to mastermind something like this. She’s a busy woman, for pete’s sake.

There are also claims the popular online group, 4chan, aided Anner, rigging his votes to help him soar to the top of the contest.

There are some saying Oprah and her affiliates rigged the votes in favor of an African-American contestant. Okay, guys, I’m all for admitting maybe I was wrong and maybe Oprah’s people did do this, but why do we have to turn it into a racial thing? Maybe they just thought Dr. Phyllis had a lot of potential.

Either way, I’m keeping my eyes peeled for further updates, and a response from OWN. I have to tell you though, I will be severely disappointed if I find out my hero, Oprah, had anything to do with it.

While many a young lady has gone gaga for Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner as Jacob, there are those who have complained that the casting did not coincide with their vision at all. In fact, I know a lot of people who actually hate the Twilight movies simply because Pattinson is not their ideal Edward.

Now before you fist bump me and say, “Right on, girl!” I want you to take a moment to think carefully about how those films COULD have been cast.

What if they’d chosen Angelina Jolie to play Bella and Tom Cruise to portray Edward? Maybe Elijah Wood could have been the perfect Jacob. Wilford Brimley as Bella’s Dad, anyone? Mel Gibson might just be the better Carlisle, and how about we turn Renee Zellweger into Esme just for fun. Absurd, yes! Has anyone thrown up yet? Changed your mind about the cast yet?

If not, this video will surely fix that. Imagine if they’d cast Twilight with the people from Jersey Shore? Complimentary virtual tissues for all Twilight fans after the video, vampire bitches.

The Wreck comes from writing team, Graham Gordy and Michael Fuller, and if picked up will join AMC’s present host of hot hour-long shows, Mad Men, Breaking Bad and the upcoming Rubicon and The Walking Dead.

One thing I find really interesting about AMC, is that despite their reliance on commercials, it is definitely giving cable channels like HBO and Showtime a run for their money. In fact, most of the people I know on a personal level have a hard time tearing themselves away from AMC.

There is no set production date just yet, but I have a feeling we’ll be getting the green light on The Wreck before the summer’s out. While I have no real interest in football, the dramatic aspect of this show is sure to appeal to a wide audience.

I think maybe the Ninja Turtles didn’t get older for a long time because they’re mutants, or maybe turtles age the same way they move: reeealllly sloooooooooooowly. They’ve finally reached their twenties in this video, and they’re now facing a whole host of adult issues. Out of shape, mooching off one another, drafted into the military…they probably have outrageous texting bills to boot.

And where is their master? How could he let this happen to our heroes in a half-shell? Their focus needs more focus. Maybe Jackie Chan could take over, start retraining them and get them back in shape so they can get out there and start busting up bad guys again.

I’d love to see Robot Chicken do this, but College Humor did a relatively good job poking fun at the Twenty-Something Ninja Turtles. I think they should make this into a feature-length film. They could bring back the cheesy turtle costumes from the 1990 film, bust some moves and inspire the youth of today into spouting off goofy one-liners.

Completely random, but this has me wondering whatever happened to Howard the Duck… hmm, there’s a video meme in there somewhere.

The results are in. Just three episodes into the season and Pretty Little Liars is doing well in our household. In fact, said fifteen-year-old has now marked Tuesday nights at 8 PM her official favorite time of the week.

We’ve watched the show with her, and while I had my doubts about whether or not it would be any good, both my fiance and I think it’s an intriguing portrait of teen deception.

Featuring four friends, each with a dark secret, the girls in the story are haunted by their murdered best friend… literally. Shortly before authorities discovered the body of the girl, who’d been missing just over a year, the estranged friends began receiving text messages from “A” threatening to expose their dirty little secrets.

I’ve had my doubts in the past about the quality of summer-released programming, but ABC Family hit the mark on this one. The teen in my house gives Pretty Little Liars two thumbs up and says, “Shh! I’m watching my show.”

In a recent contest Winfrey started on her website to find a host for an upcoming talk show to premier on her OWN network, contestants from all over auditioned and turned in their hopeful submissions, including Zach Anner.

Anner, an Austin, Texas man with cerebral palsy, sent in a comedic video in which he joked about his palsy being the sexiest palsy of them all. He also talked about how he would love to make a travel show about people who never thought they could travel. His mom always told him, “When life gives you wheel chairs, make lemonade,” and though he’s not quite sure what that means, he wants to make lemonade with America.

His charismatic video got quite a response, and for days his chances of winning looked pretty good. Anner was in first place with over 2 million votes, and then contestant Dr. Phyllis surpassed him and left him in the dust. Reports from voters started pouring in, saying they voted for Anner, but the votes never registered.

A spiteful plot by handicap-hater Oprah to keep the man down? Come on, guys, that’s absurd. This is Oprah we’re talking about. Not Jerry Springer or Maury Povich. Oprah… who at times may seem as if she’s not really listening to guests, but has always done everything in her power to welcome people from all walks of life onto her show: the abused, the downtrodden, the mentally and physically handicapped, the successful.

I don’t know Oprah personally, but I can honestly say I could not even begin to imagine her or her staff ever doing something that seedy to a person. Maybe it was a site glitch, or maybe people’s votes were pouring in so fast they weren’t registering right away. Either way, I feel pretty confident Oprah is innocent. At least I hope she is. She’s one of my heroes.

If you’re prone to following video memes, you’ll probably recognize the song and go forth into the rest of your day singing it. “Taking the Hobbits to Isengard,” by Erwin Beekveld is perhaps one of the most annoying songs in the history of the universe, and yet I torment myself with it at least once a month because I’m a fool.

The dancing vuvuzela players are everywhere, putting themselves in front of the Fellowship at every turn to discourage them from going all the way to Mount Doom. I’m telling you, that Sauron is an evil mastermind. This song is going to be stuck in my head for a week, and now it will be stuck in yours too. All part of the evil plan.

Sears and Kmart can now include themselves among the bandwagon jumping elite, as they recently partnered with California digital media company, Sonic Solutions, to sell online movies and television shows. The deal Sears struck up with Sonic Solutions is similar to deals Sonic has with Best Buy and Blockbuster, and will allow customers to purchase and download digital media from the Sears RoxioNow online portal.

Sonic distributes their content through TVs and Blu-ray players equipped to connect to high speed Internet, allowing consumers to browse available content right on their television screens.

As much as I poke the bandwagon jumpers, I have to say I am equally amazed at the continual advances in television technology. I mean sheesh, when I was a kid, the local cable companies wouldn’t even run cable out to our neighborhood, claiming it was too far out into the country. My family didn’t have more than 4 channels until my parents subscribed to DirecTV when I was 19-years-old. I find myself wanting to point and laugh at the cable companies now, even though I know it’s not polite. I will admit it seems a little weird coming from Sears, but what do I know?

Scheduled to hit theatres in January 2011, The Green Hornet screenplay was written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who’ve worked together in the past on films like Superbad and Pineapple Express. The comedy duo is pretty well known for absurdity in plot, so one has to wonder how serious they got while working on The Green Hornet.

The official trailer for the film debuted June 21, along with early screen caps from the upcoming film. So far it seems to be getting mixed feedback from the fans. Some are saying it looks cool, while others think it’s going to be too absurd for words.

I’ve learned my lesson over the years. Much like books, you can’t judge a film by its trailer, so I won’t be chomping at the bit based on that. As a lover of comics, I will definitely be checking out the film.

In the third film, adapted from the popular C.S. Lewis tale, Lucy and Edmund Pevensie team up with their cousin, Eustice, to return to Narnia. They travel with Prince Caspian on the Dawn Treader, facing off against a series of foes, including dragons and lost warriors on their journey to the edge of the world.

I’m a bad fantasy fan, readers. I still have yet to sit down and watch the second film, which I better get cracking on if I want to have a good excuse to head to the theater this holiday season. I mean, if I’ve seen the first two films, I HAVE to go see the third, right?

Also among the 2010 holiday film list are part one of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which I need no excuse to go and see, A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas and the Tron reboot, which are gonna take a little coaxing on my part.

Twenty-four now, Bynes stated on her Twitter-feed Saturday, June 19, she no longer enjoyed acting, as she once did, and that she planned to retire.

“Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem,” she began in her series of tweets. “If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it. I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I’ve #retired.”

She also noted at one point that she never wrote any of her roles, simply acted as she was directed to, which could be disheartening in one’s career. While there are people who will definitely miss Byne’s zany comedic antics on the screen, I have to say I applaud her from walking away with her dignity still in tact. How many actors keep on acting, despite having very little creative freedom in the roles they portray?

So now what? Will she go on to become a doctor, a lawyer, an astronaut, an advice columnist, or will she pursue her career as a fashion designer more seriously? I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before the tabloids let us know what she’s got going on, and it’ll probably have something to do with her returning to her home planet.

The Gates centers around a typical family struggling with regular problems, but their problems are only about to get worse, as they’ve moved into a gated community with a dark and seedy underside. Not exactly a new idea, but at least ABC’s making an effort to put a new spin on a trend that’s getting tired and worn out with every day it continues.

In classic Hollywood tradition, ABC is on the bandwagon, milking the current trend for everything they can get, but the fact that this show premiered in the summer doesn’t give me much hope. For me, summer shows tend to be a wash unless they’re already established, as viewers opt to spend their nights outdoors enjoying the warm weather.

It did get me excited for the weekly Shatner rundown, though, and there’s some exciting news in the Shaterverse I have been dying to share with you.

Remember a few weeks back when I told you about the Facebook campaign to turn Shatner into the next Canadian Governor General? Well, Canada’s Golden Guy finally responded to the hype this last week. An audience member at the Banff World Television Festival stood up and asked the Shat if he’d ever consider taking the job, to which Uncle Bill said, “The only governor generals I know have been old, distinguished and rich, and I don’t qualify on any of those.”

Poor Canada. Shatner gave a glimmer of hope, as many believe he would have done wonderful things for the country if he took the job, but alas, despite 46,000 fans on Facebook showing their support, it doesn’t look like that hope will ever be realized.

In other Shaternews, Old Captain Kirk has plans to direct a documentary about his role as the Enterprise captain. Some say this is just evidence of Shatner’s monumental ego, but come on guys. He’s Shatner. He can do whatever the hell he wants.

The upcoming documentary will explore Shatner’s early career leading up to his casting as James T. Kirk.

I’m looking forward to it, I have to tell ya. You can never know enough about the Shat. NEVER.

Dubbed “Twilight Night,” the twelve-city event is encouraging viewers new to the films to gather with fans in the community for an outdoor viewing. Along with film-viewing, Moviefone.com will stream live events from Philadelphia and San Diego, including interviews with cast members, fan-based trivia and exclusive sneak peeks of Eclipse before it releases.

Cities participating in the event include Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Miami, Philadelphia, Portland, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, Seattle, San Diego and Washington D.C. Doors will open at each venue at 6 PM, and admission will be on a first come first serve basis. With the Twilight Saga gripping the attention of teens and adults all over the nation, this is a great way to connect with fellow fans in your community. If Philadelphia weren’t such a long distance drive from home, I’d take my own daughter to the Pennsylvania event. Unfortunately, my imagination is already envisioning this massive event coated in chaos, and brimming with out-of-towners, especially with July 4 just around the corner.
