It might not sound like a big number but 7.3% of people in the United States watched LeBron James choose to “take his skills to South Beach” Thursday night on the ESPN special The Decision.
For ESPN, the 7.3 rating (a point equals a single percentage point of people who own televisions in America) was the highest rating they’ve gotten on a non-NFL show this year, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The three biggest markets watching the special were Cleveland, OH (of course) where it did a 26, Columbus, OH where it did a 14.2 and Miami, FL where it did a 12.8. Over a quarter of the people LIVING IN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND watched LeBron abandon them. Talk about brutal.
To put the numbers in perspective with other major sports interviews, when ESPN interviewed Tiger Woods after his sex scandal, it did a 0.4 and when they interviewed Alex Rodriguez about his possible steroid use, it got a 0.9.
It seems the newest member of the Miami Heat really is the biggest athlete in the world.
