As if $750 million in the United States and $2.7 billion in worldwide box office wasn’t enough, James Cameron is rereleasing his Oscar winning sensation Avatar in U.S. theaters on August 27. But since basically everyone in the world has already seen it, it’s being released with 8 extra minutes of footage and only in Digital and IMAX 3D theaters.
“Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer,” Cameron said in a news release. “So we’re making that possible.”
That will make the film a whopping 170 minutes. Audiences can probably expect to see that version of the film, and much, much more, when a special edition DVD and Blu-Ray
is released this holiday season.
Reportedly, the extra time features new creatures and action scenes.
“Whether you already love the movie, or you’ve never seen it, with this special edition, you’ll be seeing it like never before,” Cameron said.
