In what has to be a precedent setting event, NBA free agent superstar Lebron James will announce the team he is allowing to sign him in a live television special 9 p.m. EST Thursday July 8 on ESPN. The show will be called “The Decision.”

“Due to the unprecedented attention and interest surrounding LeBron’s decision, we have decided to make this announcement on national television,” said, Maverick Carter, James’ business manager, on lebronjames.com. “By doing so we have generated funds that will be given to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. LeBron has a longstanding commitment to giving back to the community, and has worked with the Boys and Girls Clubs in cities across the country.”

Who else in the world could sell advertising to an hour special where he has to deliver one piece of news? Still, ratings in cities like Cleveland, Miami, Chicago and New York are sure to be sky high to find out if the two time NBA MVP is coming to their city.

One place LeBron already is, is on Twitter. He recently signed up the Twitter name @KingJames and used it to tweet information about this special.

We’re an entertainment site so we won’t get into all the ins and outs of how much LeBron can make, what teams have to do to get him or anything like that. We just felt obligated to report that this is going to dominate the news in the next 36 hours or so.

And please come to New York, LeBron.
