No matter what websites or blogs you look at, The Last Airbender gets crappy reviews.
Hollywood Chicago gave the film 2 out of 5 stars. Hyphen magazine proclaims it the “worst movie of the year.” Rotten Tomatoes awards the movie with a pathetic 6%. JoeBlo.com gives it a 1 out of 10 rating.
Yup—looks like it’s a pretty bad movie.
The Last Airbender is based on a previous animated series, and it stars Dev Patel from the critically acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire. While reading the plot review, I actually go confused. I’m 27 years old, and I like to think that I have at least an average amount of intelligence. If I can’t follow this complicated story, how are kids supposed to?
What I did get out of the plot synopsis is this: kids will special powers try to save the world.
One kid in particular is the “Avatar,” an “airbender” that can control all four of the earth’s elements. Lucky him. The young airbender goes on to kick some evil butt and take names. Good for him.
So what’s so crappy about the movie? According to Hollywood Chicago, “the casting was odd,” it’s not an easy story to follow, and it’s “aimless.” Rotten Tomatoes states: “Despite flashy special effects, The Last Airbender squanders the potential of its popular source material on an incomprehensible plot, laughable dialogue, and a joyless sense of detachment.”
I could go on and on, but I’ll wrap it all up by saying this: Don’t waste your money.

If you are a fan of the TV series, this movie will make you want to cry. I was so excited to see this movie and it couldn't have been a bigger disappointment. I don't think M. Night could have butchered the names anymore.

If you did not watch the tv series you would be so lost. It was so choppy and poorly directed I'm SO disappointed. I was so excited to see it and the names just killed me. I could have directed that better then him.

Right, so I enjoyed watching the series. i wasn't a devout follower of it, but I enjoyed watching it. I went with some of my friends and saw the midnight premiere of this movie, and I thought it was actually really good, despite the (sometimes) funnily bad dialogue. The effects were good, and i liked Shyamalan's style of filming with this movie. It was much different than other movies he's directed in the past. For all these people who are saying the story of the movie was incomprehensible.....it's the same thing as the show, people. How is it confusing? The only two complaints I have of the movie are the fact that there's some funny dialogue moments, and that the movie felt a little rushed at times. If the majority of people in the world thinks this movie sucked beyond all recognition, well fine. We all have our different opinions. But for someone like me, who enjoyed watching the series when it was on, I found the movie to be an entertaining movie, albeit a little rushed. For those people who haven't seen the movie yet, I encourage you to go and see it, and create an opinion for yourself.

I thought it was really good, despite how rushed it was. The scenes just kept changing. If I were to go to the bathroom I would have missed some key points. Thats another thing, they cut out a lot of stuff that was in trailers, clips, and the novelization. Why would they do that? Also, I found that the girl playing Katara, at times did a poor acting job. Everyone else was fine except for her. But if you ignore all of that, which I did, the movie is really good. Hoping for a sequel.

People who say the story line is complicated are obviously the people who have not watched the original series yet!

Man what a waste of money! I can't believe I paid for that! If you're a fan you WILL NOT like the movie. Obviously the fight scenes were cool but everything else was crap. Go see this movie if you want to see how they MAKE FUN of the Avatar series....

WORST MOVIE EVER
July 1st, 2010 - 11:13:13 AM
So basically, pretty much everything is wrong in this movie. If you have watched any Avatar at all, you know that the main character's name is Aang. I guess the director thought it would be a good idea to completely change his name to Ong WTF was he thinking? And the of-atar...really? Oh and since when do fire benders need to be around fire just to bend it? Sorry for the rant, but this movie was a major disappointment. If you love the show like I do, you should definitely stay away from this movie.

Every part of this movie was wrong. From the butchering of the source material, to the completely random races of the characters, to the HORRIBLE dialog, directing, and acting. This is a must not see.

Disappointed Fan

Not that bad? Yes it was. It was an embarrassment. The poor dialect had me cringing throughout the movie. /I/ felt myself being embarrassed on the actors' behalf. Uneventful. Things that should have been exciting where just plain dull and had me falling asleep in my seat. The costumes were positively /dreadful/. And what happened to Momo? You hardly get to see him. It's like, oh look a lemur-bat! ...no more lemur-bat...where'd he go? They didn't even mention his name that I can recall. Don't even get me started on the 16 year old Zuko. The actor was horrendous. Mediocre at best and looked nothing like the character. Not to mention he doesn't by any means look 16. More like 30. And then, of course, the butchering of the characters' names. The director has admitted in an interview that this was intentional. He changed so much about the cartoon series in the movie that it's like he has absolutely NO respect for the fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender at all. And that is highly insulting. I could go on and on, but I think that I shall just end my rant here.

Good News

I have been going over the numbers since reading some dubious movie sites that have been saying M. Night's film is a "success", yes I know, despite 98% of the critics in the US have said otherwise. Please feel free to research the validity since I took them off MovieMojo.com. The production budget for the film was 150 million (Marketing costs were another 130 million, but that’s another story) and so far it has made domestically $129,344,805 and since HALF goes to the theaters that show it, that amount is less than 65 million. Now if you add the the foreign gross (54 million) and we have about 188 million worldwide. However since half has to go to the theaters, the movie has only made less that 95 million so far after a month and a half. Still a failure in both counts. Listen we cannot let this director think his decisions were anything but ill advised and ridiculous. Give us some ideas to put the word out.
