You may remember him as the hard-hitting Principal Ed Rooney, on a quest to take down school skipping con artist Ferris Bueller, but in 2003, actor Jeffrey Jones was accused of soliciting a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually explicit photographs. Jones pleaded no contest, and has since been required to register in the sex offender database. Sources say Jones propositioned and paid the boy on two occasions to pose for sexual photographs in his Los Angeles home.
Jones was sentenced to five years probation and instructed to seek sexual counseling. He must also appear in the sexual offenders database for the rest of his life.
Jones was arrested on June 23, after failing to update his status as a sex offender and is scheduled to appear in court on July 14.
Failure to update registry information is considered a felony. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jones was not available for comment at this time.
This is one of those things that just goes to show how little attention I pay to celebrity news. I had no idea he was ever even convicted as a sexual predator, and though I always loved him in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and as Lydia’s dad in Beetlejuice, I’m a little stunned and will probably never be able to look at him the same way again.
