From reality show star to politician…it sounds like an awkward and strange transition, but it’s exactly what Sean Duffy is attempting.
Duffy appeared on The Real World in Boston in 1997, and he is now a Republican primary candidate for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. He is hoping to take over the seat of David Obey, a Democrat who has represented the district for over four decades, and who will soon be retiring. Duffy faces a struggle, as this seat has long been held by a Democrat—can the 38-year-old Republican and former reality show star win the seat?
Surprisingly enough, Duffy has raised over $600,000 and is actually expected to beat his opponent, Dan Mielke, in September’s Republican primary.
Duffy referred to his appearance on The Real World in a recent appearance in his district by saying, “I was young.
They edit in things. I didn’t have any kids yet. If you want to know my character, look at the kids I’ve raised. All I can do is tell you this is what I’ve done. This is where I’ve been. This is where I stand.”
