Rupert Grint was your average kid before being cast in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Now the ginger haired actor has a slew of fans all over the globe.
One such fan is the great Martin Scorsese.
Scorsese noticed the actor in the films that made him famous right away. ”I thought he was a great actor in the Harry Potter movies. In a lot of scenes, the boy stole the show. He will always have respect for the movies that gave him such a huge break, but at his age it’s important he doesn’t become typecast. He has to do something really out of his comfort zone in the next few years – play a gangster, play a dirty cop, play a kid with learning difficulties,” said the director. He went on to say that he’d be interested in casting Grint as a villain at some point in one of his films.
The legend even compared Grint to his protege, Leonardo DiCaprio, saying that no one expected DiCaprio to be such a “bad ass” in The Departed after filming movies like Titanic.
He thinks Grint could get to that level with his natural skills.
It seems that Grint is already breaking out of the “Ron Weasley” mold he’s been in for so long. Not long ago, the actor played a lead character in the British movie Cherry Bomb, a movie filled with sex, drinking, drugs, and a deadly finish. Grint even filmed the first sex scene of his career with co-star Kimberly Nixon.
There’s no doubt that Rupert Grint is talented and such amazing words for an industry favorite like Scorsese should be taken to heart. My only concern is that he’ll have difficulty with all the pressure being applied now. I’ll be watching him either way- I think he’s amazingly good.
