Larry King announced Tuesday, June 29, that he will be ending his talk show Larry King Live after 25 years on the air.
King will be ending the show this fall. However, he will still be involved with CNN on a part-time basis, hosting a number of special “on major national and international subjects,” King confirmed.
In recent years, Larry King Live has dealt with falling ratings—especially in the past six months. But King stayed firm on his stance that “that had nothing to do with it” in an interview with Bill Maher.
King further commented that it will give him “more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games.” Yes, he’s referring to Shawn Southwick, who he reunited with in May after filing for divorce in April.
Thus far, there are no replacements signed on; King himself says that he’s “sure there’s a ton of people that could do it. Come on, it’s Q & A.” At least he’s realistic about it.
Larry King is 76 years old, and it seems to me that it’s about time for him to hand his duties over to someone else. After all, it’s time for some younger blood to come in and shake things up…and I’m sure that King will enjoy having more time with his family, also.
