Happy Monday folks! Are you enjoying the sweltering summer heat? Me neither. Let’s see what happened this weekend in the news realm!
I’m sorry Criminal Minds fans, but Paget Brewster has announced it’s her last year with the show through Twitter. Not long ago, AJ Cook was let go of the show and Brewster’s episodes were cut down considerably, leaving Kirsten Vangness as the only full time female cast member. After a meeting with the executives, Brewster thanked her fans for supporting her and Cook through this difficult transition, saying, “So how do I thank 42,309 people.. It worked. Thank you, everyone. Thank you for helping and supporting me and AJ. Thank you for everything!” She added, “PS- I should clarify.
I am immensely grateful. I’m still angry about AJ. I’m sad this is my last year. But I wanted to thank the fans…” We’ll miss you Paget!
Mena Suvari’s a married woman now! The American Pie actress married her fiance, concert producer Simone Sestito, at a private church ceremony on Saturday in Vatican City, Italy. The couple met at the Toronto Film Festival in 2007 and have been engaged since 2008. The Italy location was chosen mainly because a good chunk of Sestito’s family lives nearby. Congratulations to the happy couple!
Toy Story 3 has come under fire from feminist groups recently. The popular feminist magazine, Ms., has accused the film of “careless sexism,” saying that the boys club of toys (seven males to one female) ratio is promoting bad ideal to children. ”Kids who grow up watching sexist shows are more likely to grow up internalizing stereotypical ideas of what men and women are supposed to be like,” article author Natalie Wilson writes. The article goes on to say the movie is also homophobic by depicting the Ken doll as a “closeted gay fashionista with a fondness for writing in sparkly purple ink.” Despite the article’s anger towards the film, it still grossed $110 million in its first weekend and another $60 this weekend.
Apparently we do not have enough shows about cake on television. TLC has announced a spin-off of the popular series Cake Boss where aspiring cake artists get the chance to compete for a chance to work with the “Boss” himself, Buddy Valastro. Ten competitors will have to wow the judges over the eight episode series (that hasn’t been named yet), with the winner getting an apprenticeship at Valastro’s cake shop, Carlo’s Bakery, in Hoboken, NJ. Casting will go underway immediately while Valastro is on his “Bakin’ With the Boss” tour. You can apply to the show through the TLC website.
That wraps it up for this week folks! Enjoy your Independence Day!
