When commercials hit the airwaves it’s usually a shot in the dark as to whether or not they will make a lasting impact on product sales, but in the case of Old Spice, nobody seems to care. With an interesting take on manhood and egotistical behavior, Old Spice has created a phenomenon so big it could be compared to campaigns like the Barq’s Has Bite campaign or even the I Feel Like Chicken Tonight campaign. The odor blocking sprays, body washes and deodorants have been given a completely new spin with the help of people like Terry Crews and Neil Patrick Harris, but the biggest surprise is the increasing popularity of one Isaiah Mustafa. Mustafa is featured in one of the more popular Old Spice ads that has been airing since the Winter Olympics and with hundreds of thousands of YouTube hits and NBC has reportedly offered him a talent contract.
At this point it is difficult to know what this means, but you can be sure that Mustafa will be a face you’ll see again. Waste this weekend with Old Spice commercials.
Isaiah Mustafa
The whole “Look at your man, now look at me,” saying is something that has really caught on of late and Mustafa’s rendition of a self absorbed ego maniac is spot on.
Terry Crews
In some of the more outrageous spots by Old Spice, action hero (he will be seen in this year’s shoot-em-up Expendables) Terry Crews plays up his ridiculously fit body.
Before he was known as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother, Neil Patrick Harris’ most memorable role was as the boy genius Doogie Howser. In this spot for Old Spice, an older Harris pokes fun at the fact that he used to play a doctor on television and uses it as an excuse for people to trust him.
