It looks like Rupert Grint isn’t the only Harry Potter actor to be doing new things.

Daniel Radcliffe has finished filming the Harry Potter series and is moving on.  The raven haired hunk will take on the role of Paul Baumer, a young German soldier fighting in the trenches of France during WWI in the updated version of All Quiet On The Western Front.

All Quiet On The Western Front was originally a novel written by Erich Maria Remarque.  The first big screen adaptation was released in 1930 by Lewis Mileston, who later took home the Oscar for Best Picture for the film.  This adaptation will be produced by Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson through Sliding Down Rainbows Entertainment.  The pair also penned the script.

Stokell is very happy Radcliffe is on board.

”Daniel brings a vulnerability and innocence to Paul. When we realized how much he loved the script we were really excited because we know he can tap into the delicate balance between intensity and believability that is critical for this demanding role.”

Radcliffe has just wrapped up filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two (‘Part One’ opens November 19) and will be jumping into a stint on Broadway with How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying (which opens Spring of 2011). Filming for All Quiet On The Western Front will begin in 2012, after Radcliffe’s Broadway shows ends.

I certainly hope Radcliffe doesn’t spread himself too thin.  Going from one production to another will certainly be exhausting for the 20 year old and I hope he’s taking care of himself.
