Everyone’s up in arms about the recent announcement that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Board of Governors is discussing moving up the 2011 Oscars to January 2011.

One of the biggest complications this would cause has to do with scheduling. January is a busy time of year—both the Golden Globes and Super Bowl occur during this month. The telecast of the 83rd Academy Awards could conflict with these two events, causing some serious fights over ratings and viewers.

This would also place the Oscars right before the SAG awards on January 30th and the BAFTA awards on February 13th. Many are afraid that the Academy Awards is going to steal all the thunder from the other major events occurring around the same time.

Oscars reps stated, “The awards season is too long currently. This will shorten and reduce the amount of campaigning. Also, it will make the Oscars the definitive awards show again.”

Um…not to sound like “that girl,” but…who cares? I feel like there is certainly more going on in the world—let’s see…maybe the incredible FUBAR oil spill?!—and yet here I am, wasting your time with this trivial news.

I guess even I can’t control the news that people want to read.
