She may not have emerged as the most recent American Idol, but Crystal Bowersox’s career will be just fine.
American Idol’s ninth-season runner-up has officially signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records. If this company sounds familiar, there’s good reason for it—this is the same company that includes former American Idol contestants Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Kris Allen, David Cook, Adam Lambert, and Jordin Sparks.
Bowersox stated, “I’m really grateful to be given this opportunity to make an album and let people hear my music, and I’m looking forward to working with all of the folks at 19/Jive.” That’s something else I like about Crystal: she always keeps it classy.
Bowersox’s major-label debut album is scheduled to hit shelves later this year, and I have to say that I’m actually excited. Bowersox is the only American Idol contestant in years that I’ve watched and thought, “I want to buy her music.”
The singer kept a consistent tone and voice throughout the show, displaying preference for songs with a folk and classic rock edge. She covered songs including Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee,” Glen Hansard’s “Falling Slowly,” Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me On Reason,” and Melissa Ethridge’s “Come to My Window,” among other bluesy, folksy numbers.
