If you’re as much of a fan of The Office as I am, you have your own opinion about the road that the show has been taking as of late. With all of the talk of Steve Carell leaving the show (for those of you who don’t watch the quirky comedy, Carell plays the notorious Michael Scott), changes are definitely in store for the show.
Well, one character may be leaving the show, but one character is now committed to sticking around as a series regular.
Zach Woods plays Gabe, a character that was introduced to viewers when Sabre took over Dunder-Mifflin. Gabe started out as the eyes and ears of Scranton for Sabre, but his many efforts at commanding respect and proving his authority have failed.
Gabe will have many more chances to get in good with The Office crowd during the show’s seventh season.
Show producer Greg Daniels has said that Gabe “fills the role that Jan used to have”; in other words, he’s the dude “who goes from branch to branch whom people have to report to.” Hence, the false sense of authority that Gabe seems to have most of the time.
Gabe fans are surely glad that he’ll be a regular face on the series, but I’m not too stoked about the change. I have nothing against Gabe (or Zach Woods, for that matter), but I’m a lover of the old school Office, where Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) are still trying to realize their feelings for each other, and when Dwight (Rainn Wilson) was the “enemy” (instead of someone that you occasionally feel sorry for).
Don’t think I won’t be watching, NBC! I’ll be watching every move you make in season 7, and the world will hear all about it.
