When I was a kid, there was little that I loved more than being scared. I grew up watching movies like Sleepaway Camp, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Halloween. But throughout it all, my favorite 1980s cheesy horror movie has always been Monster Squad.

What is this Monster Squad?, those of you who have been sheltered from its greatness may ask. Well, it came out in 1987 and focused on a group of kids who find out that Dracula has come into their town and plans to take over. The vampire king runs amok, raising up a werewolf, swamp monster, mummy, Frankenstein, and more. And it’s all great fun (anyone remember the “wolfman’s got nads” scene? How could you forget it?).

Well, filmmakers have decided to remake Monster Squad, and I have a dark suspicion that they will be ruining my favorite horror movie of all time. Two screenwriters have signed on to the project: Mark and Brian Gunn, best known for Bring it on Again. That’s right. This horror classic will be in the hands of cousins who wrote about cheerleaders.

Can you tell I’m disgusted? All I can do is hope and pray that this duo doesn’t totally ruin Monster Squad.
