The time of MTV VJs may be reaching its end. The network is now on the search for its first Twitter Jockey—or TJ, to you acronym-minded people.

The TJ will be MTV’s first social media maven, engaging with the network’s audience via Twitter. He or she will serve as a middleman (or middlewoman) between viewers and the networks bigwigs.

This position is, according to MTV General Manager Stephen Friedman, “a natural evolution of how we connect with our audience.”

There are already 18 potential candidates, and MTV is asking its audience to come up with two more. Then the 20 TJ wannabes will compete in online challenges throughout the summer, giving us all an idea of who they are and how they will connect to MTV audiences through Twitter.

Twenty will be pared down to five, and these five contestants will compete on a live show on August 8 before fans will make the final decision as to who will be awarded the position.

I don’t know about you, but I’d be perfect for this job. I’m fun, a genius (don’t deny it), and pretty awesome all around, if I don’t say so myself.

If you think you’d be a rocking TJ, simply nominate yourself (or someone you know who’s perfect for the job).
