Michael Bay acknowledges he was wrong. That statement alone should be enough to stop the presses everywhere.
USA Today went onto the set of the new Transformers movie that is (hopefully) going to come to the big screen summer of 2011. Michael Bay admitted that the direction of the second film was a tad off and this film will have a more coherent story, less goof-ball antics, anything that dies will stay dead and the film will be available in 3D.
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen was the second highest grossing movie of 2009 (behind Avatar), raking in $836 million worldwide. It’s obvious that people at least saw the film, but critics panned it, some even go so far as to call two of the characters “racist.” Bay actually said he’ll take the criticism.
”It was very hard to put (the sequel) together that quickly after the writers’ strike (of 2007-08).”
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura says the rush strained the plot: “We tried to do too many things in the second movie, which didn’t give enough time in any one of them. We were constantly jumping to the next piece of information, the next place.”
So what’s changing? The new villain (Shockwave!!) will make fans of the original series smile and remember those twins from the second movie? ”They’re basically gone,” says Bay.
As reported before, Megan Fox will not be returning to the franchise, so Shia LeBeouf’s character (who’s growing into adulthood) will find a new love interest in Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The plot will stay a secret (obviously) but it’s been hinted that it will focus on the space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA.
I really hope this movie lives up to all of the hype, but I’m very happy that Bay is making it more story-centric. Will you be seeing Transformers 3 when it comes out?
