Music and gaming fans unite in anticipation of one of the coolest music-related video games to hit the market in years. Harmonix and MTV Games announced details for the upcoming Rock Band 3 game, including a roster of expected bands and musicians who have never before appeared on a music video game.
The soundtrack for the game promises to be outstanding, while integrating new keyboard features and access for up to seven simultaneous players. The game contains an 83 song setlist, as well as access to more music than any other game currently on the market. They plan to have an accessible music library of more than 2000 songs by the time the game hits shelves.
Songs from the 1960s through the modern era include tracks from The White Stripes, Janes Addiction, Smashmouth, The Cure, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osborne, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Jett and The Doors.
The Game is also designed to teach players actual musical skills, empowering them to rock out in the real world, as well as in the virtual gaming arena.
We’ve been looking for an excuse to upgrade to PS3, beyond the obvious Blu-ray DVD capabilities, and for months, the biggest reason anyone in the family could provide was Green Day Rock Band, but I have a feeling Rock Band 3 is going to be the clincher that finally seals the deal.
I know I’m behind the times, but I’m ready to get with the program after seeing this. I haven’t even shown my teenager yet, and she’s already squeeing.
It’s a small comfort to know MTV still cares about music, at least on some level.
