Les Grossman, a character from the comedy Tropic Thunder, has been getting a lot of press lately after his dance off with Jennifer Lopez at the MTV Movie Awards.

Yesterday, Paramount joined the fray with the humorous announcement of a Les Grossman feature film.  The character is a slightly heavyset, foul mouthed, very hairy (yet balding) mega-producer who is portrayed by Tom Cruise.  Of course the press release pretends that Grossman is real and Tom Cruise will only be playing him in the movie.

The film will be produced by Tom Cruise, along with Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld of Red Hour Films and it seems Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) will be penning the script.  This team will definitely make an interesting film, if the film is real to begin with.

Stiller said of the piece, “Les Grossman’s life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds.

He has assured me he plans to quote, ‘****ing kill the s*** out of this movie and make Citizen ****ing Kane look like a piece of crap home movie by the time we are done.’ I am honored to be working with him.”  There’s no word as to whether or not the Tropic Thunder cast will be reprising their roles.

Will this work?  It seems that the general consensus is that the Grossman character is much funnier and easier to handle in smaller doses.  Grossman is often like a verbally abusive jackhammer, which can take it’s toll after listening for a short amount of time.  Will consumers be able to put up with it for hours on end?

I’m sure Paramount has done their research, but I’m not sure on this one.  The film is still untitled.
