Wednesday, June 9, was the evening for all country music lovers. The 9th Annual CMT Music Awards (commonly confused with the similar ACM Awards and the CMA Awards) honored the best and most beloved when it comes to country music—and the best part is that the winners were chosen by the fans themselves. Or at least, by those fans that had the know-how to vote for their favorite musicians.

So is it such a surprise that Carrie Underwood dominated the entire night? Underwood went home with two trophies for: Video of the Year (“Cowboy Casanova”) and Performance of the Year (“Temporary Home”), making her the big winner of the evening.

And host Kid Rock didn’t do too shabby either. Censors and audiences across the nation were surely weary of how Kid Rock would behave during the awards ceremony.

Would he cause trouble up on stage by himself? Would he cuss too much or be drunk or start smoking onstage? Thankfully, none of these occurred. Instead, Kid Rock was charming, good-natured. He was, in fact, the perfect host.

My favorite part was his opening for the show. He issued a warning to anyone who was thinking of pulling any “Kanye Westi-isms…anyone thinking of grabbing the mic, myself or the Bo-Stevens will personally punch you in the mouth, all right?”

I think I like Kid Rock a hell of a lot more now than I did before the CMT Awards.
