Beloved movies Back to the Future and Jurassic Park will soon become episodic video games.
Game developer Telltale Games has looked to the movies for material. While the videos spawned games previously, none are as interactive (or new) as this developer promises. ”I think it’s a prime time to reintroduce these properties in the digital world,” said Dan Connors, CEO at Telltale Games. “Telltale Games has always set out to be a great storytelling company. We’ve been honing our chops over the past six years, and we’re ready to take on these two iconic properties and continue to advance storytelling in games.” Previous games created by Telltale were based on the stop-motion animated series Wallace and Gromit, Sam and Max, and Matt Chapman’s Homestar Runner.
NBC Universal, who holds the rights to the films, seems optimistic about the deal with Telltale.
The films don’t really lend themselves to a typical first person shooter style, so the hope is that the games will be very story-centric. Conners has said the games, which are still in early development, will bring players into new stories in the Back to the Future world. He hinted at a possible DeLorean ride to the 1970′s. As for the Jurassic Park games, Conners said they will focus on intensity and adding more backstories to the man-vs.-dinosaur idea. He also said that these games will be more new interpretations of the worlds than sequels.
The games, which are supposedly coming out this winter, will be available on XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC and Mac computers.
