I was only a little toddler when The Goonies came out in theaters…but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t grow up with a deep respect and admiration for the film. In fact, my brother and I were so in love with the kids in The Goonies that we pretended we were them. It was fun, and I’m sure it was annoying to my parents. Oh well.
Today marks the 25th birthday of the classic cult film, and fans from across the globe are gathering together to pay homage to the movie. In fact, a busload of fans has flocked to Astoria, Oregon, to celebrate The Goonies’ 25th anniversary. These hardcore fans journey to the town so that they can do the Truffle Shuffle in front of Mikey’s house. Don’t know who Mikey (played by Sean Astin) is or what the Truffle Shuffle is? Then you don’t need to be reading this post, you Goonies-ignorant fool.
Regina Willkie of Astoria’s Chamber of Commerce noticed that Goonies fans were coming from far and wide to see the filming sites of the movie. She decided that it was time to plan a 25th anniversary celebration, which consists of four days filled with Goonies love. I have to say, I’m jealous. I wish I were in Astoria right now.
My final thought? Goonies never say die. So there.
