Why are people so touchy about religion? Can’t we all just find humor in things?
I guess not.
Comedy Central’s upcoming animated Jesus Christ project, JC, has been in the works for almost a month, and religious leaders are finally stepping forward to protest the development. The Hollywood Reporter states that those forming the Citizens Against Religious Bigotry in order to protest JC include Tim Winter, Tony Perkins, Michael Medved and Brent Bozell.
So why is CARB so irritated about JC? They haven’t yet seen a script, since the project is still in development. Bozell said in a statement to THR: “After we reveal the vile and offensive nature of Comedy Central’s previous characterizations of Jesus Christ and God the Father, we expect [the project’s] advertisers to agree wholeheartedly to end their advertising on Comedy Central and discontinue their support for unabashed, anti-Christian discrimination.”
Give me a break. Between you and me, I think the energy these folks are putting into CARB and protesting JC could better be used to—geez, I don’t know—volunteer at a local shelter or read to the elderly in nursing homes. But I guess I’m not “Christian” enough to make that assessment, as I obviously appreciate humor such as what is promised by JC.

Here's a question for you Katrina. Why is Comedy Central so okay with producing content offending Christians, but will alter an Islamic cartoon because of threats from Muslims if the depictions aired? As a Christian, you should be offended at the way CC depicts Jesus Christ, your savior as a Christian. As a parent, it's frightening what our kids are now exposed to that is portrayed as funny.

Brandon, I think making fun of all religions is golden. That's just me, though. If you want the project to become censored, I'm guessing you could threaten Comedy Central on behalf of Christians across the globe...but that wouldn't be very Christian of you, would it? :)

Brandon, I agree with you in a sense. It is frightening what we are exposed to nowadays. Fact of the matter is it's the parents' job to keep kids from being exposed. Terrible things have been around for ever for children to be exposed to; it's just easier to see and more accessible today. Parents just need to keep up with the times and teach their kids proper values; whether Christian or alien :). You've got to find the humor in things however, and as a responsible, logical, reasonable adult we can do that. I'm quite sure CC isn't targeting our children and trying to brainwash them.
