We all remember The Pee-Wee Herman Show…at least, those of us who grew up in the ‘80s remember the hilarious show, which then went on to become Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. Paul Reubens’ portrayal of the man-child Pee-Wee Herman created a cult phenomenon that has stayed strong over the years.
And it’s about to get a revival. The show began as a stage comedy and then became a television show for children and adults to enjoy. Now it’s moving back to the stage—Broadway, to be exact—for a six-week run that’s sure to get fans crawling out of the woodwork.
Reubens, 57, is more than pleased with the news. He said in an interview with the New York Times: “I can hardly believe it. Honestly, I’ve been pinching myself.”
So what spurred this Broadway gig? Some may say it’s because The Pee-Wee Herman Show enjoyed a great run at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Or maybe it’s just because we could all use a little more Pee-Wee in our lives right now. Either way, I’m happy as pie to know that Broadway will feature a man-child and his immature (but always funny) humor.
The show will begin performances at the Stephen Sondheim Theater on October 26.
