Gary Coleman, 42, of Diff’rent Strokes fame, underwent emergency surgery for head trauma on Wednesday, May 26 at a hospital near his Utah home. The injury occurred due to a fall at his home.

The former child star is in the ICU and is in critical condition. According to his manager, he is currently in a coma and on life support due to a brain hemorrhage. Manager John Alcanter stated, “We are saddened to announce that since mid-afternoon, Mountain Time, on May 27, 2010, Mr. Coleman has been unconscious and on life support.”

Coleman isn’t a stranger to hospitals these days. In fact, this is his third hospitalization in the past five months. The prior to hospital stays were because of seizures that he suffered in January and February of this year.

The second seizure occurred during a television interview.

Coleman has had his fair share of trouble in the past, if you remember correctly. He allegedly hit a man in the knee with his car in 2008 and pleaded no contest. The civil suit regarding this incident was settled in January of this year. He was cited for disorderly conduct in both 2007 and 2009, and the former child star was arrested on a charge of domestic assault against his wife in January of this year.

And wife Shannon has been in trouble with the law. She was arrested in July 2009 on a charge of domestic assault.

While these two certainly aren’t poster children for positive role models, I still hope that Coleman recovers and that the couple can find peace together.
