The upcoming Sex and the City sequel is set to premier Friday, May 28, just in time for the long, Memorial Day weekend. Early reviews have already hit the net, and some of them are a tad bit controversial.
The Hollywood Reporter summed up Sex and the City 2 as an “Overlong sequel [that] scores some choice, politically incorrect laughs.” They went on to review the film, which lacks in soul and plot, claiming “The rather scathing portrayal of Muslim society no doubt will stir controversy, especially in a frothy summer entertainment.”
The first film, which spun off from the popular television series, was a box office success in 2008, and many of the ladies have been anxiously anticipating the sequel.
Empowering in its blatant femininity, the anti-Muslim issues have the UAE (United Arab Emirates) debating whether or not they want to ban the film.
Though reviewers are saying the plot is lacking, and that it focuses too heavily on the lame issues in Carrie Bradshaw’s marriage, while touching too lightly on some of the more critical notes in the other girl’s lives, gals all over the nation are highly anticipating a girl’s night out to see this movie.
Personally, I could care less. I’ve never seen the first movie, or a single episode of the television series when it was on, so I plan to make better use of my time this weekend. Maybe I’ll reorganize my closet, or spend the whole weekend watching True Blood.
