If you found yourself sniffling a little at the thought of kissing Jack Bauer goodbye on Monday night’s 24 series finale, don’t worry. It’s only a temporary farewell.

Though 24 will not be returning to television, the film they promised us last year is currently in the works.

According to executive producer, Howard Gordon, “Billy Ray has written a draft which Kiefer Sutherland has read, and we’re all working together on the second draft.I think Jack Bauer the character has got sufficiently broad and strong shoulders to carry a movie in this genre.”

Seeing as the script is in the early stages of the second draft, it could be two or more years before 24 makes it to the big screen. That’s going to leave a lot of people, myself included, itching beneath the skin for another dose of our favorite agent.

Monday night’s episode provided a shred of closure, as 24 is prone to doing, but you and I both know Jack Bauer is incapable of resting. Some worldwide tragedy/conspiracy is bound to strike soon that only Bauer can make right again.

I’m not sure how I’ll fill my Monday night void now that the series ended. Maybe I’ll finally finish my freakin’ novel. Or maybe I can find something else to watch before Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.
