CBS announced on Monday, May 24, that Paula Abdul would be the head judge on their upcoming reality series Got to Dance. As an award-winning dancer and choreographer, along with judging the contestants, Abdul will also act as a coach and mentor throughout the competition.

Her eight years experience as a judge on American Idol, combined with her expansive music career makes her a good fit for the position. Abdul told reporters, “I’ve spent the better part of my life teaching, mentoring, nurturing – working with so many talented people—and I consider myself truly blessed to be able to continue to do something that I hold so dear to my heart.”

Got to Dance is an American spin-off from the successful British television series.

Similar in style to American Idol and other talent competition shows, contestants in a wide variety of age groups will compete for the opportunity to audition for the show. The most talented individuals will then go on to compete against one another in a judged forum until only one competitor is left.

Hot on the heels of successful shows like Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and the upcoming Dance Your A** Off competition series, I have a feeling the upcoming CBS series will pull in a fair audience, especially with Abdul at the helm.

Personally, I could care less about all these reality competition shows. I keep hoping to hear that 80% of the world population enjoyed their fifteen minutes of fame so we can move on to bigger and more entertaining things.
