Actress Brittany Murphy, 32, passed away only five months ago due to pneumonia, an iron deficiency, and drug intoxication. Her husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack, was found dead Sunday, May 23, in his Hollywood home.

The L.A. Fire Department was called to the couple’s home for a medical emergency. Shortly after they arrived, Monjack, 39, was pronounced dead. Sgt. Louie Lozano stated that the preliminary cause of death was natural causes; however, investigators stayed on the scene to look into any other possible causes or issues.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brittany’s mother, Sharon, was the one to discover Monjack in his home. She called 911 after realizing that her son-in-law was unresponsive and needed emergency medical help.

I can’t imagine the kind of emotional torment Sharon is going through right now. Not only has she had to deal with the death of her daughter, but now she has to deal with losing her son-in-law—and after being the one to find him. That can shake up anyone’s mental wellbeing.

In January, Monjack’s mother, Linda Monjack, reported that her child was “unwell, and the doctors are carrying out tests. On whether he has a heart problem it is not really for me to say, you must ask him, but yes, there have been health problems in the past…it’s been in the press that he had a slight heart attack a week from Brittany’s death.”

It seems as though tragedy simply followed this couple around. Some may say that Monjack died of heartbreak. I guess we won’t know until the coroner releases a report of cause of death. I can only say that Monjack’s family is in my thoughts.
