May 24th is the day when it all ends: eight seasons of action-filled drama headed by Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland), America’s hero and defender. At 8:00 p.m. EST, the two-hour series finale of 24 will begin, and an epic story will end.

After last week’s episode with Jack re-kidnapping Logan and slaughtering his way through the Russian delegation, it’s hard to imagine an episode even crazier and more action-filled. Well, start imagining it. Because the series finale promises to be out of control crazy.

Jack plots his final revenge on the series finale, and all die-hard fans can only hope that the series finale stands up to the series’ previous episodes. According to The Globe and Mail’s John Doyle, the series finale “is merciless action drama, pointedly bloody and steeped in paranoia. It’s also a satisfying ending for a series that has, by turns, been ridiculous and brilliant.” Sounds good to me.

24 is, in itself, a series that has made history. It’s the only network television show that was centered around the United States of America’s post-9/11 reality. It will be sad to see 24’s reign come to an end, but all good things must end, as we all know.

Farewell, Jack Bauer—here’s to hoping that you go out with a bang.
