I still go to the movies, probably more than most people. There’s just something about the theatre atmosphere that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Even when ticket prices went over $12.50 here in my hometown, I still went to the movies, sticking my tongue out at the naysayers who kept pointing out that money doesn’t grow on trees, and it’s far cheaper to wait for the DVD.
For the first time in the U.S., movie theatre ticket prices will soar over the $20 mark, as New York City IMAX 3D theatres charge adult patrons to see Shrek: Forever After in 3D. Knowing that most parents will be taking their wee ones to see this in the theatre, what a way to make a killing.
What they don’t realize is that by jacking up the prices, they are only confirming the decision for many to stay at home and wait for On-Demand or DVD. With four to six months between theatre to DVD release, I can wait.
With the economy still in a fragile state, especially for everyday people like you and me, this increase in ticket prices will have people boycotting theatres. On the other hand, there are people who will pay that outrageous price just so their kids can see Shrek, Fiona, Puss and Donkey on the big screen in 3D.
What do you think? Is $20 too much for a single ticket to the movies? Even if it is 3D?

This is even more messed up because some of the AMC theaters in manhattan are actually fake IMAX screens. They are no where near as big as real IMAX. Check it out here: http://azizisbored.tumblr.com/post/106587114/reblog-the-fuck-out-of-this-warning-amc-theaters-are

I have always taken my kids to see movies on theater big screens but the price of tickets, 3D tickets, are just too much. I can now wait for them to come out on DVD
