The Peabody Awards aim to recognize the most outstanding achievements in radio, television, and other forms of electronic media. Last night was the 69th Annual Peabody Awards and several of our favorite shows were featured.

Host Diane Sawyer started the program with honoring Glee, a show that helps people remember their past high school experiences- “like not being invited to the prom, not that I’m asking for your sympathy,” said the icon.  Ryan Murphy, the creator of the show, accepted the award for the show, calling it “a show about a lot of things. Mostly Madonna. But Glee is  about diversity.”

Modern Family was also honored last night with a Peabody.  Creator Steven Levitan accepted the award with castmates Ed O’Neil, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, and Eric Stonestreet.

Levitan says he loves hearing viewers stories of “accepting people different than them because they love these characters.”  Stonestreet had different praises – namely that of the young baby who plays his daughter Lily.  “In the beginning, she was very scared, but now she loves us and we love her,” said Stonestreet. “Where we used to fight over who had to hold her in scenes, now we fight to get to hold her.”

Other winners of Peabody awards were the fantastic Craig Ferguson for his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, the 60 Minutes report named “The Cost of Dying” about end of life health care, and the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency on HBO.

Congratulations to all recipients!
