Can it just be Sunday already? Like, now? Pretty please? I need it to be Sunday because Tuesday’s penultimate episode of Lost, called “What They Died For,” was one of the most important episodes of the series. It had drama, intrigue, story, humor and even some answers. There really wasn’t a whole lot to dissect, this episode was all about setting up Sunday’s finale and boy did it do that.

Spoilers follow.

By far the biggest thing to happen in the episode, of course, was that Jack officially took over for Jacob. Wow. That was something many people were sure wouldn’t happen until the final seconds. But no – Jack is now in control of protecting the island. He’s the one true candidate, and he came to the decision after a discussion with Jacob where we find out why the mythic man chose our heroes to come to the island.

Because they were all broken. Now, however, he must figure out a way to defeat the Man in Black.

Speaking of him, we saw fake Locke meet back up with a bunch of characters we haven’t seen in a while: Ben, Richard and Miles specifically. Before Locke found them, though, Widmore and Zoe had a little chat with them in New Otherton and, well, you saw what happened. Richard got his butt whipped, Ben flipped on Widmore, and both Zoe and Charles died. Ben’s line about Widmore not being able to save his daughter after he shot him was chilling. But we also learned that Desmond was the island’s fail safe. Not sure how that will come into play with Jack now running the island, but we’ll see.

Back in the sideways world, Desmond got Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid all to head to the same concert that Jack, Miles, Charlotte and probably Sawyer are going too. How awesome was the stuff in the jail? I was smiling ear to ear. And when Desmond beat the crap out of Ben and Ben realized that he was living in a parallel universe? Breathtaking.

And don’t even forget the fact that Ana Lucia came back, Rousseau and Ben had a possible love connection and that Locke wants Jack to fix him. Is Jack going to “fix” Locke in both worlds? I think we are going to find out on Sunday. Get here now!!
