ABC announced late Wednesday, May 13, they planned to renew V for a second season and decided to kick Flash Forward to the curb. Reports say the network was looking to cancel one of the series, and V’s ratings, though slightly down in the second half of the season, were a little higher than Flash Forward.
As the NBA Playoffs continue to dominate ratings, V managed to hold its own, continuing to rake in a loyal viewership each week. Flash Forward on the other hand, didn’t seem to stand a chance.
Among other cancellations on ABC’s adios list were Scrubs, Romantically Challenged and Better of Ted.
There is some word that Romantically Challenged’s cancellation isn’t confirmed. The show’s star, Alyssa Milano, sent word out to her Twitter stream that she was furious, as the network made no such claim to her.
Shortly after, she announced that ABC hadn’t made an official decision yet. She then pleaded with her Twitter network to bombard ABC with requests that they keep the show in their lineup.
Renewals, cancellations, new shows. As usual, the fall kick-off is looking like it’s going to be pretty interesting. I’m sad to see Scrubs go. That show is iconic. Maybe Comedy Central, which regularly airs back episodes, would be compelled to pick it up.
Are you bummed out about any of these cancellations? And what do you think about V getting picked up for a second season?

I am very upset about the cancelation of FlashForward. Many here in the US and around the globe watched it.

FlashForward is the one show I looked forward to each week. Very disappointed in this decision.

V has some flaws (such as: missing the point of what a Fifth Column actually is and referring to the human resistance as the Fifth Column; and, for that matter, populating the Visitor Fifth Column with Visitors that either have no idea what the Master Plan is or, for some reason, have no inclination to share that intel with their human colleagues,) but I'm glad to see that it's been given more time to work all that out. Flash Forward was interesting enough, but the concept kinda lent itself to being limited to a single season (or drawing itself out overly long, though I suppose there was a time when nobody saw much future in LOST's stranded castaways concept either.)

Very disappointed that Flash Forward and Heroes got the axe. They've been replacing the best sci-fi shows with junk.

I really tried watching FlashForward for more than one episode, but quickly lost interest in it. I was actually watching both V and FF, but went with V. I grew up watching it as a kid with my father, and still love it. I agree TrackTrick that the show does have flaws, but they have been working them out over time. And seeing that it was given another season makes me extremely happy. I don't even DVR it, I actually anticipate it coming on every Tuesday.

I'm somewhat happy that V was picked up for a second season (is anyone *not* curious about what those red clouds are supposed to be for?) but I hope the series comes back from it's down time with a better writing staff. Whoever wrote the second-to last episode (in which the Vs threaten to leave) should be put in charge of writing for the whole series.
