There’s been a bit of debate about Joaquin Phoenix’s career being over, especially since that bizarre appearance he made on Late Night with David Letterman after his announcement to retire from acting.
Directed by Phoenix’s brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, the mockumentary will explore Phoenix’s emergence into this strange, pod-version of his former self. It will also expose the truth about whether that whole charade was just that, a charade, or if some bizarre space entity really infiltrated Phoenix’s brain and began making bad decisions for him.
Full details about the mockumentary are pretty vague at this time, while Affleck shops it around for a distributor. A deal for the film is expected to be purchased in the next few days, but the buzz on the Net seems to be: “Who cares?”
The unexplained behavior as Phoenix transitioned from Oscar-Award-winning-actor to homeless-bearded-vagrant/rapper confused a lot of people, and with no explanation in sight save for this upcoming mockumentary, few people seem to even want an answer anymore.
Well, that’s not true.
I want to know. I want to know what happened to you, Joaquin. I had a little hope that the well-groomed Joaquin of old might be returning to the big screen when he learned how to use a computer a couple months ago with the help of Miley Cyrus and Liv Tyler, but that hope has since fizzled… much like some believe Phoenix’s career fizzled. But here’s the thing. If this entire charade was one big act, it just goes to show that Phoenix is really one of the most amazing actors of our time.
My question for you? Do you care about this mockumentary? Will you buy it to find out what the hell happened to Joaquin Phoenix, or would you rather move on with your lives and focus on more important things…like Kendra Wilkinson’s sex tape and who got kicked off American Idol Wednesday night?
