Let’s be honest: we’re all attracted to watching shows about the “darker” aspects of life. Eating disorders, mental illness, drug addiction, alcoholism…watching people deal with these disorders and diseases suck us in, making us watch—like a train wreck that you can’t pull your eyes away from.
So it only makes sense that A&E, the network that brought you Intervention and Hoarders, ordered a companion show for Intervention. I’m Heavy will be 10 episodes long and will focus on two individuals each episode. What’s special about these patients? They are overeating patients who are going through a six-month treatment program. I’m not surprised to hear of this new show, as a lot of other networks (including E! and the Oprah Winfrey Network) have recently green-lit eating disorder reality shows.
A&E also ordered Intervention in Depth: One Man Rehab, which will focus on what happens in the months following an intervention. There are also several celebrity reality shows that the network plans to add to its line-up including Strange Days with Bob Saget, Growing Up Twisted, Teach: Tony Danza, and an as-of-now untitled series focusing on David Hasselhoff.
I’m a whore for reality television, so—of course—I’m totally thrilled about this news.

Please make sure to be responsible and provide additional resources for those watching these shows who are suffering from eating disorders. Eating disorders are complex and destroy many lives I hope the severity of these illnesses is taken seriously.
