Reports are in that this year could be Steve Carell’s last year portraying Michael Scott on the popular comedy series, The Office.
In a recent BBC Radio interview, Carell noted that his contract with the network was coming up for renewal at the end of the seventh season, and when asked if he planned to sign on again, he said, “I don’t think so. I think that will probably be my last year.”
The forty-seven-year-old actor won’t be hard up for work if he does leave The Office. At present, he has ten in-production film projects going on, making him a busy, busy man.
After rumors earlier this year that NBC had plans to cancel the comedy series, chances are they may need to reconsider their decision to keep it.
Dwight is funny enough, but The Office without Michael Scott? I can hardly even imagine it.
Despite the fact that the series was a knock-off of a British comedy series of the same name that starred Ricky Gervais, the American version of The Office managed to keep audiences entertained for seven seasons. That’s five seasons longer than the original series lasted on British networks. Does that mean Carell is funnier than Gervais?
I already bit my tongue, so there’s no need to tell me to do it.
