After many months of silence, Conan O’Brien will finally be able to speak on television after Friday, April 30. So what’s he going to do?
Conan O’Brien is going on 60 Minutes.
Approximately six years ago, Conan O’Brien was promised the hosting spot on The Tonight Show. When the time came Jay Leno, the current host, decided he wasn’t quite ready for retirement. As a result, The Jay Leno Show was created as a lead in to The Tonight Show and resulted in not great ratings for both. NBC backtracked and tried to move The Tonight Show to a later time, moving The Jay Leno Show into the 11:35 p.m. slot. Conan O’Brien refused, was booted, and Leno was reinstalled as the host of the famous late night program.
O’Brien was given a $30 million severance package and signed an agreement not to be on television for a three month period along with not hosting another show until Sept.
1. As a result, O’Brien launched his “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television” theatrical tour which recently came back into the Universal area.
The three month silence period ends this Friday. As I stated earlier, O’Brien will break his silence on the CBS show 60 Minutes. What exactly is he going to speak about? Per his NBC agreement, he can’t speak against the NBC network or he’ll lose the money.
So what will he say about the ordeal? I predict not much. Maybe a few jabs at the network but overall it will be pleasant. Maybe he’ll share more from his theatrical tour or about his new show on TBS, but I wouldn’t expect fireworks.
