Wednesday night, American Idol hosted a special two and a half hour episode called Idol Gives Back. The charity drive edition of Idol was kicked off by President Obama and the First Lady who, I have to say, are possibly two of the hippest people to have ever lived in the White House.

After explaining the purpose of Idol Gives Back and hashing over the billions raised by American Idol and fans in the past, I couldn’t help but giggle when the President quoted Randy Jackson’s famous line, “You’re all my dawgs.”

Even better than the “dawg” quote was a stern warning from the First Lady to Simon Cowell, who’s known for his stern and often overly critical disposition as an Idol judge. “Simon, be nice,” said the First Lady, before Ryan Seacrest kicked off the show.

Idol Gives Back was jam-packed with celebrity performances by greats like Elton John, The Black Eyed Peas, Carrie Underwood and Alicia Keys. It also contained a host of touching videos from all over the world, including a brief look at Simon Cowell’s journey to a remote area in Arizona where the only pediatric care available to families is in the region is a traveling pediatrician funded solely by charitable contribution.

The entire episode was one big inspiration that touched hearts and prompted viewers to donate more than $15 million last night. Amazing!

Unfortunately for Tim Urban, it was also the end of the line. His dashing, Disney-esque smile managed to keep him in the running for a long time, but Wednesday night he was voted off.
