Comedy Central president, Michael Ganeless, announced today that individual contracts were negotiated and signed between the network, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Grateful fans can continue watching both the The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report from now until June 2013, when their contracts will be up for renegotiation.
The Daily Show With Jon Stewart launched in 1996, featuring a cast of correspondents relaying comedic commentary on pop culture, world news and politics. Since the show first aired, it has won thirteen Emmy Awards and two Peabody Awards.
The Colbert Report kicked off on Comedy Central in 2005, similarly exploring culture, news and politics, from Stephen Colbert’s point of view.
Colbert refers to his style of broadcasting as “truthiness” and often speaks out on topics in a manner many conservatives find shocking and controversial. Since 2005, The Colbert Report won and Emmy in 2008, and was honored with a Peabody that same year.
Despite the controversial nature of both shows, Colbert and Stewart continue to bring viewers to the network, as many of us can’t wait to see what topics they will cover, or what they’ll say next. So, let’s raise our glasses and cheer for another three years of truthiness and enlightenment from Comedy Central.
