MTV confirmed reports this morning that comedian and actor, Aziz Ansari is set to host the MTV Movie Awards this June. Ansari tickled funny bones in MTV’s comedy shorts collection, Human Giant, and went on to gather laughs with his stand up comedy routine, appearances in television series and films, including NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

When asked how he felt about being offered the job, Ansari said, “I’m so happy Ronnie from ‘Jersey Shore’ was unavailable and this exciting opportunity was able to come my way.”

MTV’s general manager, Stephen Friedman, noted that Ansari was perfect for the job because, “…he will bring his innovative comedy and distinctive style to the movie industry’s most rebellious night on television.”

The 2010 MTV Movie Awards are scheduled to kick off June 6, 2010, at 9 p.m.

ET. The 19th annual awards show will air live from the Gibson Amphiteatre in Universal, California.

MTV has a wide variety of film categories with huge cache of nominees in each one, including Best Male Breakout Actor, Best WTF Moment and Best Fight. Unfortunately, voting for nominees is closed at this time, but MTV will open up the polls again on their official website so viewers can vote for all their faves before the big show.
