ABDC Champions for Charity

America’s Best Dance Crew is all about winning: winning the title, winning the fame…and don’t they win cash, too? But this week, the five former winners of the show gathered together for ABDC Champions for Charity.

Each of the five dance crews chose a charity from dosomething.org, a website complete with all the tools young people need to get involved with helping a cause that they feel passionately about. Each crew’s performance was dedicated to their chosen charity. And each chosen charity received $10,000 on behalf of the show.

I have to admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of America’s Best Dance Crew. However, I’m a huge fan of helping others, and I was blown away by this event.

For the record, Poreotix chose Jackie Rotman, the creator of “Everybody Dance Now,” an organization devoted to teaching underprivileged children how to dance. We Are Heroes chose “The Sparkle Effect,” created by Sarah Cronk, which encourages high schools to have cheer squads specifically for kids with disabilities. Quest Crew chose Jordan Coleman, creator of the film “Say It Loud,” which focuses on the importance of education to the youth of our nation. Super Cr3w chose to support Marvelyn Brown’s charity “Marvelous Connections,” which helps to raise HIV awareness. Finally, JabbaWockeeZ chose Joshua Sundquist’s “Less Than Four,” a website dedicated to bringing amputees together.

Good job, MTV. This is actually something you can be proud of.
