I love a good miniseries. I can still remember getting all enthralled with minseries growing up, waiting for the next installment and hoping I didn’t miss a second. Miniseries have become a big part of TV history. They have allowed us to enjoy amazing works of literature and complicated stories all in a new way. Here is my list of the Top 15 television miniseries ever made.

15. The Singing Detective

This 1986 in miniseries follows detective and novelist, Phillip Marlow as he battles a crippling disease and rewrite a previous novel. He drifts into a fantasy world of spies and criminals.

This is the story of a police investigator working on the case of the mysterious death of his activist daughter.

From the Earth to the Moon

In 1998, HBO led us on a 12 part journey through the Apollo expeditions. Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, Michael Bostick and Brian produced this miniseries that won an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award.

This 2010 HBO creation is a 10 part series about United States Marine Corpstroops stationed in the pacific during World War II.

11. Pride and Prejudice

The 1995 TV adaptation of the Jane Austin classic. This six episode miniseries stars Colin Forth and Jennifer Ehle.

In 1985, “The Boat” is the story of the crew of one of U-boats deployed by the Germans in World War II.

This is the story of the Roman Empire from 24/23 BC to Claudius’ death in 54 AD. Claudius narrates his life for all to see.

This is a truly unique miniseries, in that it is the first two Godfather films re-edited together in chronological order with additional footage added.

This Emmy award winning production about a reporter, traveling with the Marines during the first wave of the American-led assault on Baghdad.

This is an amazing special effects driven miniseries about a father and daughter that are caught in a parallel universe where fairy tales are real.

5. The Thorn Birds

This miniseries chronicles 60 years in the lives of the Cleary family. It centers around Meggie, who is in love with her priest.

4. Lonesome Dove

This is the epic story of two former Texas Rangers who decide to held cattle from the south to Montana.

3. Band of Brothers

This is a fascinating tale of a group of soldiers who fought in WWII. This miniseries gives us a glimpse at ordinary men doing extraordinary things.

This is a heroic tale of love and loss during the American Civil War.

The saga based on Alex Haley’s family history. The story tells of Kunta Kinte as an African slave and the family’s history of slavery and path to freedom.
