The contestants on this season of American Idol are incredibly talented; obviously or they wouldn’t be there. They are so talented, that each week it’s a major shock when someone gets sent home. We watch, and we vote for our favorites, but we can’t vote for everyone. Well… we can, but in the end what good does that really do?

Now you guys know I am a big fan of Andrew Garcia, and have been since day one. When Andrew and Big Mike stood side by side last night, the two possibles, I really thought Andrew was going home. While we watched, I said to my fiance, I was going to be sad to see Andrew go, but overall Big Mike had performed better and more consistently over the last six weeks.

Of course, whenever we watch, since he’s in Canada, his FOX channel is about twenty-seconds ahead of mine, so when he gasped and said something I shall not repeat her for the sake of little pitchers, I was shocked.

Big Mike received less votes than Andrew? How could that be?

Anyone who watches Idol knows that when it comes down to the wire, the judges have only one save per season. If they believe a contestant is good enough to go on in the competition, they can pull the save card. Fans all across the country were on the edge of their seats, watching and waiting in hopes that they would use that save on Big Mike. Cameras panned across the audience, showing Mike’s wife, who was in tears after hearing her husband was about to go home.

Thankfully, the judges felt that Michael Lynch was worth it, as you can see in this save of epic proportions. I don’t feel bad rooting for Big Mike. When it comes to American Idol, loyalties can shift and change with each performance, and while I think Andrew Garcia is one of the most unique performers I’ve heard in awhile, I really couldn’t stand to see Big Mike go home.

Congratulations, Michael Lynch. I’m personally so glad you’re not going home just yet!
