Every year, the University of Georgia gives out awards to honor excellence in broadcasting of all kinds.  They call these the Peabody Awards.

This year’s awards awarded some newcomers to television, including Modern Family and Glee.  About Modern Family, the University said “This wily, witty comedy puts quirky, contemporary twists in family ties but maintains an old-fashioned heart,” and said, “Dependably tuneful and entertaining, the musical dramedy that revolves around the motley members of a high-school choral club hit especially high notes with episodes such as “Wheels,” about the daily struggles of a wheelchair-bound singer,” about Glee.

Craig Ferguson was honored for his The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, specifically for his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The late night host was shocked on twitter, saying, “Holy crackers. A Peabody. Congrats to Lisa Ammerman the segment producer who made the Father Tutu visit happen. I am genuinely shocked.”

Other groups to get Peabody awards were Seasamestreet.org (the website of the iconic children’s show), Endgame (PBS), and the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency (HBO) among others.

It’s great that these wonderful shows got more well deserved honor.  Modern Family and Glee have been amazing since the start and Craig Ferguson is an amazing host who does not get nearly as much attention as he should.  Congratulations to all Peabody recipients!
