Star of HBO’s True Blood series, Anna Paquin, recently recorded a public service announcement for the True Colors Foundation in support of equal rights for the gay and lesbian community.
In her video spot, Paquin stated, “I’m Anna Paquin. I’m bisexual, and I give a damn.” She also elaborates on the statistics of hate crimes in her spot, in hopes of educating the general public on the importance of change and acceptance for the GLBT community.
The Give a Damn Campaign kicks off today, April 1, and will feature video support from superstars like Elton John, Kim Kardashian, Sharon and Kelly Osborne and founder of the True Colors Foundation, Cyndi Lauper.
The twenty-seven-year-old star is currently engaged to her True Blood costar, Stephen Moyer, which many believe will help lend credibility to bisexuality. All too often, bisexuality gets a bed rap, being associated with frivolousness, promiscuity and indecisiveness. Having an actress in a committed relationship speak out on behalf of bisexuality could promote greater understanding for the general public in regards to bisexuality as a personal lifestyle choice.
Paquin and Moyer return to HBO on June 17 for season three of True Blood, but until then, you can watch the video for the Give a Damn Campaign right here.
