David Mills Dead at 48

David Mills isn’t a name that many automatically know and connect to the entertainment industry. Mills worked behind the scenes as a writer and producer for some of the most popular television shows of our time including The Wire, ER, Picket Fences, and Homicide. He has been credited as being responsible for the character of Dr. Romano on ER and was honored with several Emmy Awards for the work he did on The Corner, an HBO series.

Mills died at the age of 48 on Tuesday, March 30th, of a brain aneurysm in New Orleans. He was working as a writer and co-producer of Treme, a new series from HBO. The series is scheduled to premiere on April 11th; it focuses around several struggling musicians as they deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

A representative from HBO commented on the sorrow they were experiencing over Mills’ death: “He was a gracious and humble man, and will be sorely missed…”

So often, the folks “behind the scenes” are looked over and forgotten. While it may be later rather than sooner, it’s time for us to pay homage to David Mills and the brilliant shows that he helped to create.
