Latin singer and sex symbol Ricky Martin came out of the closet today with his arms flying. Martin has been subject to many rumors and speculation, that he was gay, over the years. Ricky Martin posted a tweet Monday saying, “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.” This tweet was posted in both Spanish and English and later conformed by a representative of Martin.

Most people had an inkling that martin may be gay, so it is not rock your world news, but, it is revealing when any star divulges such information. Martin got his start in the teen group Menudo. The group also had a TV series Menudo. In 1994, Martin moved onto the soap opera General Hospital as Miguel Morez.

Now the pop star is a 38-year-old father to two sons, both born via a surrogate.

Ricky has been working on his memoirs and decided to reveal the truth in order to free himself from his secrets.  Ricky says, “From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time. Things that were too heavy for me to keep inside.  Writing this account of my life, I got very close to my truth. And this is something worth celebrating.” He has also stated that he was told that if he came out it would hurt his career.

Martin’s career peaked in America in 1999, when he released “Living La Vida Loca” and “Shake your Bon-Bon.” Although he has lost some fame here he is still hugely popular in the Latin community. He stated, “Because all this advice came from people who I love dearly, I decided to move on with my life, not sharing with the world my entire truth.” Martin also said, “Allowing myself to be seduced by fear and insecurity became a self-fulfilling prophecy of sabotage. Today I take full responsibility for my decisions and my actions.”

Ricky is still working on his book and hopes that this revelation will allow him to live openly with his sons and his fans.
