Good news for zombie lovers! AMC ordered six episodes of Walking Dead, an zombie series adapted from the popular Robert Kirkman comic book series of the same name. The series was originally optioned to NBC back several years back, but after a monumental bidding war, it was finally acquired by AMC.

The series will follow a group of survivors battling for their lives in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, and is set to be written, directed and produced by Frank Darabont. Darabont has worked on numerous horror projects, including collaborations with author Stephen King, and Nightmare on Elm Street 3 back in the 1990s.

AMC is renowned for its unique original programming with series like Mad Men and Breaking Bad, so fans of the horror genre are looking forward to seeing what the network does with Walking Dead.

Zombie fans have been vying for a well-adapted television series for years, so there is hope for us yet. As horror genres ebb and flow in popularity, the recent resurgence of well-received zombie-related films and fiction has primed the pump for television viewers to finally get what they’ve been asking for.

There is no word yet on when the series will debut, but with marketers trying desperately to ride out the end of the zombie wave, here’s hoping it happens soon!
